A Visit to a Christmas Tree Farm
It’s Christmas time again and I couldn’t be more excited! I’m the type of person who must wait to start celebrating Christmas until after Thanksgiving, but that begins the moment Thanksgiving is over. I start pulling out all the decorations on Black Friday and this year we went to get our tree the Saturday after Thanksgiving.
If you’re in the Seattle area and are looking for a place to cut your own tree, this post is for you!
We’ve chosen Trinity Tree Farm for our Christmas tree in 2019 and 2021 (no tree last year when I was on the east coast for the whole month). This farm is located in Issaquah and is about a 30-40 minute drive from downtown Seattle. I like that it isn’t too far, but is still out of the city to make a fun day of it.
When you visit Trinity Tree Farm, make sure to come on an empty stomach. The farm has a beautiful lodge/barn with a full food court. They offer lunch, baked goods, espresso and hot apple cider for you to enjoy under twinkling Christmas lights either inside or outside by the fire.
The farm is also great for photos. The trees make a beautiful background themselves, but the farm also has numerous photo spots. There’s an antique fire engine, a beautiful arbor, and this year some adorable chainsaw carved wooden snowmen!
At the farm, they have five different tree varieties to choose from: Noble firs, Fraser firs, Grand firs, Nordman firs, and Douglas firs. Fraser and Nordman are only available as pre-cut trees, but you can cut all the other yourself. Saws and twine are provided and they offer shaking, baling, and tie-downs as well.
We chose a Noble fir our first time and a Grand fir this time. In the South where I’m from, the trees are almost exclusively Fraser firs so we wanted to try something new. I think Fraser firs remain superior due to their strong branches and ability to hold up heavy ornaments, but the Grand fir we got this year has the best smell of any tree I’ve ever had and is beautifully full. You can’t really go wrong.
Visiting a tree farm to pick out and cut down your own tree is a wonderful way to kick off the Christmas season and get into the holiday spirit!
